Post Partum Depression
If any of you saw yesterday's Life section of the Register, I'm sure you saw my article. It's true, it was me. Maybe I divulged too much information about what happened after I had Piper and then Aftyn but if it helps just one person, it's worth it to me. PPD is REAL and it SUCKS!! And I had a pretty mild case to say the least. We need public awareness and that should start at the OB office because, evidently, they aren't even equipped to deal with it. At least my OB office wasn't, they pawned me off on someone else--Thanks for kicking me while I was already down! This is something that not only affects a new mom but her whole family: kids, husband and even her job. It is miserable to say the least and more common than any of us know, myself included. Next week, I am going to a support group, not that I have symptoms anymore, but to support those who may feel like they are alone with this "disease". And actually I am curious to see how many people actually show up. I may be the only one there, but I'll be there for anyone else who needs the support. Enough for now...-AS

Good for you for stepping up. I knew you had it with Piper, but didn't know with Aftyn. You hid your feelings well. But you should have spoken up so we could have helped you through the rough times. That's what family is for. Also, about anti depressants...People don't understand that they are not just for sad feeling, but also prescribed to control pain and other medical issues. You would be surprised who all is on them. I would rather see someone try to feel better than to bottle it up. You've got some fun young years with the girls ahead of you, enjoy them. You think they can think of a lot now, just wait, what one doesn't think of the other one will. The preschool years will start being memories of fun! Glad your pills are working for you. Don't put a time frame on them, if you are feeling good, swallow one and move on with the day. Nice article. Hope it helps someone else that's overwhelmed and needing help!
Hey Allison. Karen sent me the link to your blog. I think it's great that you shared your story. I do think it will help people to know they are not alone.
It's been fun reading stories about your kids.
Hope all is well.
